Everything you were afraid to ask about weed

Weed by any other name would smell as sweet

weed belongs to the hemp family. Its name refers to the active cannabinoids, which occur almost exclusively in the female representatives of the plant. Cannabinoids are responsible for the intoxication, and there are many more sub-chemicals that play a crucial role in the active qualities of marijuana. Hemp as a name is often more common, but this naming mainly refers to the products of the weed plant in general and the actual hemp fibres in particular.

The terms weed and marijuana used to refer to hemp as a drug. In the 18th century, researchers classified the hemp plant by individual characteristics, and over the following decades, an intensive examination of the systematics took place. Genetically, more than 150 different strains have found their way into the textbooks, and particularly the classification into weed sativa and weed indica are of great importance for their use in recreational and medicinal growing.

The presence of endocannabinoids goes back to the time of the early Cambrian, i.e. well into the Earth-time. At that time, invertebrate molluscs dominated the planet, and there was a life explosion in the oceans and these individual receptors already regulated important processes of biology in the primitive times of the earth. The endocannabinoids were therefore already proverbially active in trilobites, accompanied the dinosaurs and today counteract in humans as the highest class of mammals of a biochemical imbalance.

Hemp used for work material

Hemp plant even before the Neolithic revolution, the sedentary human being, our ancestors worked with hemp, and there are always hints in archaeological sites for use as decoration or simple work materials such as ropes and strings. Right at the beginning, it is the exceptional ability as an intoxicant that makes weed a perennial favourite for human use, with China and India, for example, as local centers in focus. The herb and its products are highly valued medically and old accounts tell of its use against a plethora of ailments such as pain, infection or as a means of relaxation. No wonder then The hemp, which had been demonized in many places, can be found in numerous critical goods. Long before the turn of the century, the plant was widespread in almost all cultural centers. Emperors, scholars and famous doctors used weed as a natural remedy against all sorts of complaints in antiquity and the Middle Ages.

The hemp plant impact on economics

The commercial use continued, for example, the enormously strong fibres were used for a strong bow as tendon, and rulers like Charlemagne had no problem with it when the local farmers cultivated the hemp in the fields. In the late Middle Ages, researchers discovered that the raw materials are known today as weed are suitable for the production of paper and famous works such as the Gutenberg Bible or the American Declaration of Independence printed on hemp paper. The ships of great trading nations such as Venice and Genoa sailed with hemp sails across the seven oceans and only the synthetic fibres invented in modern times put an end to the rainy cultivation in European latitudes. Today, the versatile raw material is making a big comeback; there are clothes, colours, hemp-based feed and even the pleasure of being an intoxicant is experiencing a spectacular rebirth.

Where in the world is weed grown?

weed plantThe first evidence of cultivation of weed a found in Asia. Especially in southern China, in India and around the Himalaya Mountains, intensive plant breeding has been proven for many thousands of years. Due to the rain, however, it is no longer possible to determine today where hemp grew and appeared first, but the enormous robustness does not allow a clear geographical demarcation. weed growers repeatedly refer to this fact and even talk about weeds, which certainly requires special conditions in terms of soil and climate for use as a noise drug.

Apart from industrially used hemp, the cultivation of high-potency varieties concentrated in countries such as Morocco, Thailand, Afghanistan, South America, parts of Black Africa or even in high-altitude countries such as Nepal and Pakistan. As liberalization progresses in America, outdoor weed fields a found from California to Colorado. And of course, today’s immensely popular indoor grass also grows in greenhouses, whether in Switzerland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Canada or, of course, in secret, in many German hobby cellars.

Even today, weed is not just used as a drug of intoxication, but often as a productive crop and raw material. Especially clothing benefits from the robust composition and still ropes and paper are produced. However, the legal problem makes cultivation difficult in many places. However, the usefulness in the industry is, and also in Europe, some varieties of weed may today be grown as useful hemp in a big way. The hemp plant grows relatively undemanding quickly, needs no chemical fertilizers and produced efficiently. Pests and weeds have a hard time with hemp, and the plants are also in demand as a producer of biomass.

As an annual, hemp has a sawn edge and hand-shaped leaves. For flowering, the leaves decrease in number, there are opposite and alternate leaf forms, depending on the location. Usually, the plant grows diploid, but cultivating also produces polyploid forms. In addition, the genome has been completely known for several years and several hundred million base pairs are identified.

Gender differences – Male and female weed plants

The term feminism, meaning the division of the weed plant into female and male representatives. There are hermaphrodite plants, which can be a problem, especially in rearing, because then unwanted pollination of the female hemp plant takes place.

Note: In the case of hemp seeds, it is not possible to distinguish between male and female with the naked eye. Only in the stage of pre-bloom can the female hemp plants be separated from the males. The female hemp plant forms buds or flowers – the male plant, however, looks thin and “unhealthy.”

On the outside, the seed is not recognizable as female or male at all, and only modern technology has made possible a feminization of seeds here. In principle, however, the growth process and germination itself are to be awaited. In the stage of pre-bloom, the sex becomes visible, and this manifests itself by so-called pollen sacks in the axils of the leaves with the male representative. The pollens are then carried by wind pollination to the female weed plant and with this function then exhausted the meaning. Here, of course, the hemp farmer intervenes and usually the male plants are eliminated, so as not to disturb the process of the other sex in flower formation.

More about female weed plants

The female hemp plant forms the finest threads in the flowers and when men are nearby in this stage, this leads to the unwanted formation of seeds – inedible and therefore always avoided by farming professionals. However, there is also the targeted care of the male hemp plant, finally, here can breed excellent seeds or make targeted pollination. The above-mentioned hermaphrodites occur especially in times of stress, as the hemp plant also pollinates itself and thus can survive an emergency as it were.

  • Did you know that dried hemp flowers also are known as marijuana or slang as weed, grass, ganja? Which expression you hear – always meaning the same!
  • Did you know that the hemp or weed plant is not just an intoxicant? Many products such as clothing, paper and ropes are made of hemp.
  • Did you know that weed has been historically used as medicine for the relief of pain, against infections or as a means of relaxation?

Main weed types: Sativa and Indica represent!

There are varieties that are particularly useful for the hemp and contain little THC, the intoxicant of the weed plant. In principle, however, a distinction is made between weed indica and weed sativa in the varieties important here. Not entirely unimportant, since the intoxication is different and especially in the breeding and cultivation of useful hemp the professionals pay attention to the nature of the seeds.

Indica, as its name implies, originates from India and these hemp plants grow about one and a half meters high. They can be compared with the shape of fir and have broad, short leaves or fingers. Many shoots and numerous flowers provide a high yield, the time of flowering given on average between 7 and 10 weeks. There are strains on the market that only offer Indica genes. When this type of plant is cultivated outdoors, it thrives best in areas with high daytime and low nighttime temperatures. Famous representatives are Kush and Afghan.

In contrast, Sativa is very lean and high in growth, which results in the long leaves and fingers. It needs warmth, even at night, and therefore can only be fully exploited in Europe under artificial light. Also, the flowering phase is much longer and can be up to 16 weeks. This variety is bred with pleasure and especially the Haze variety has found its way into appropriate crops.

weed strains available on the market are mostly crossbreeds, but there are also a large number of pure Indica or Sativa hemp plants. The industry is constantly creating new seeds, which then lead to even higher yields and strong active ingredients in the flowers.

What makes Indica and Sativa different from hemp plants?

Science does not differentiate between Indica and Sativa and legally speaking there is no difference. Every marijuana plant is basically a sativa! However, in practice a very diverse distinction between Indica and Sativa. The two categories are used to classify into the multi-faceted spectrum of action of weed.

The different properties in effect and growth patterns within this spectrum are enormous. Depending on the environmental impact, the weed plant is subdivided by itself into a very broad range, an undoubtedly remarkable and valued by connoisseurs.

The physical appearance of Indica and Sativa hemp plants

Hemp plant from weed seeds Indica weed strains is very strong, compact plants with heavy, fragrant and very dense flowers. On the stems, weed plants produce continuous nodes, which are exactly the places where branches, leaves and flowers (buds) are formed. The indica buds have the property along with the nodules at branches and trunk very close in clusters.

Under the same conditions, the sativa plant would visibly grow taller than the indica. The sativa flowers would probably be lush because here the buds ripen along the branches. In contrast, the indica grows in grape from around the internodes. In the finished dried and fermented state, however, the Sativa flowers are lighter than the Indica flowers, because the Indica flowers have a significantly higher density. The smell is also less strong in Sativa buds, both during growth and as that of the finished flowers.

Differences in the flowering of Indica and Sativa hemp plants

A significant difference is a flowering season because here Indica seeds require significantly less time. The average flowering time is between 45 and 60 days.

Sativa varieties need between 60 and 90 days before they have correctly sprouted. The growth phase, however, is significantly shorter than in Indica plants, this brings both in the end on a temporally about the same growing duration. However, in the natural environment, the light cycle is nearly constant for Sativa weed plants, while for Indica growers, the natural light cycle between germination, growth and harvest can be delayed, extended or shortened by a few hours.

There are distinct differences in size between Indica and Sativa plants. Indicas weed proliferates during flowering. Under normal circumstances, the growth of an Indica strain will not degenerate. For indica weed strains, a growth spike of 50-100% usually is expected during the flowering phase.

In the tropical regions, the length of a day is about 12 hours, 365 days a year. Sativa hemp plants have adapted to grow and flower simultaneously under the same lighting conditions. There are no clearly recognizable growth and flowering phases as is the case with indica varieties. When cultivating Sativa varieties indoors, Sativa plants will grow and flower just as they do in nature, if their 12/12 light rhythms are kept as they are in nature. During flowering, sativa plants continue to grow and can increase their vegetation height during the flowering period by up to 200-300%.

How indica and sativa marijuana highs differ?

Indica weed seeds are usually classified as “stoners” in their effects, so the impact is felt physically. With indica marijuana, it is also possible that your sensory impressions such as touch, taste, and smell significantly increase. It also has a relaxing effect that relaxes both physically and mentally. If you consume too much, Indica weed can also make you sleepy.

Sativa flowers have a lower weight than their Indica relatives, and a more extended flowering period, however, many growers appreciate especially the extraordinary “high” effect of Sativa weed strains. Quite typical of Sativa strains is the cerebral impact, it gives energy, creativity, but can also be silly or psychedelic. The high is not as strong in the end as the huge stoned by indica buds, but it is unlikely to fall asleep as a consumer through the consumption of sativa buds.

Sativa “High” and Indica “stoned”

For medical purposes, both the sativa and indica weed is ideal. The different states of intoxication make both varieties very popular with consumers. The high is triggered by the sativa weed, and in many cases is characterized as quite an intense, energetic, cerebral excitement. The state of intoxication is very friendly, can cause fits of laughter and is often inspiring and creative. This intoxication is perfect for daytime consumption, and this is the main reason for the many recreational consumers to rely on the sativa intoxication in daylight.

The effect of indica is probably just the opposite because the sativa intoxication makes you “stoned.” The indica effect comes closer to physical, physical sedation different than the more head-related sativa effect! Taking too high a dose can be wholly anesthetic, pushing you into your couch, armchair or bed will make you feel particularly relaxed.

The Indica varieties are ideal for the evening because they have a soothing, stress-reducing and mood-whitening For the medicine is especially the soothing relaxation of Indica varieties interesting. The use of weed for the rehabilitation of health should primarily bring peace and sleep and the selection of the hemp plant, and thus the seed itself is essential.

Cannabinoids in Sativa

The content of cannabinoids in Sativa varieties is usually higher, in the ratio of THC to CBD. However, Indica varieties have a higher CBD content, but a lower THC content than Sativa varieties. At present, there are many hybridized varieties. These include a blend of sativa and indica, but in most cases, these combinations have modified in a way that makes one variety more dominant than the other.

weed Ruderalis and Autoflowering

Particular strains that only recently gained attention is weed ruderalis. Usually, there is little THC as a psychoactive agent here, but new methods of so-called Autoflowering change the flowering phase and a cross with Indica or Sativa leads to the weed plant weed Ruderalis impressive, because of very quickly achievable results. Not even 10 weeks pass on average until harvested here, and so this strain has become a fairly popular product for growing at home.

In which forms can you consume the plant?

weed plant form the most common is the smoking of dried hemp flowers, these are called marijuana or slang as weed, grass, ganja. Here, the content of THC can be up to 20 percent, and consumers attach great importance to taste and flammability. If, however, the flower resin is smoked alone, it is called hashish, shit, piece. The hashish is then available as a pressed plate and consumed in small pellets. Often, the content of THC in hashish is higher and can reach up to 30 percent.

What is the psychoactive effect of weed?

With several hundred ingredients, the hemp plant is undoubtedly well-equipped and there are about 100 substances of active cannabinoids. Especially well known is the THC as necessary for the intoxication, but also other ingredients contribute to the pleasant feeling.

Depending on the variety used, the perception of noise may vary. weed Indica provides for a rather calm, relaxed experience, in the linguistic usage the winged term “stoned” has become common. weed Sativa, on the other hand, is rather exhilarating, sometimes even very activating. Professionals here speak of “high” and intense stimulation.

As a drug, hemp ensures an altered perception of colours, tones and even smells and the taste varies. Yet the sense of time can be stretched or gathered and also very characteristic is a prevalent, intense feeling of hunger. One circumstance that is often the door opener in modern medicine for the legalization of weed, the hemp plant can be excellent for eating disorders use. In general, a mood enhancement is noticed, so that the commonly known stereotype of giggling.

The onset of weed varies depending on the form of intake and is of course also the dose-dependent. If the dried hemp flowers are smoked, the effect on the lungs is faster than when eating hemp biscuits and the like over the stomach. Occasionally, no effect is noticed at all, especially during initial consumption.

Medical use of the hemp plant

Medical weed came before our large-scale legalization of marijuana in Canada. Science is primarily interested in its use as a medicine. Although there were and are great concerns, especially from the side of the pharmaceutical industry, all lobbying work could not stop the change in consciousness. There is intensive research into the medical use of weed in many countries around the world today, with the focus on the active ingredients THC and CBD.

Even in ancient times, a pain-relieving effect of the hemp plant or weed was well known. Thanks to the latest knowledge, the treatment of severe disease processes such as multiple sclerosis are often already standard, and also stomach problems, sleep disorders, anxiety and psychosis are treated with weed. Inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis and even bipolar disorder and schizophrenia should be mitigated with the use of hemp and made bearable.
